About Montfort

The Society of the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel was founded nearly three centuries ago by the French saint, St. Louis Marie de Montfort. Inspired by his deep spirituality and unwavering commitment to the Gospel, the Brothers strive to live out these values in the spirit of their founder, who embraced them with conviction and simplicity in his own time.

The Montfort Brothers began their first mission in India in 1903. Over the decades, their presence has grown across almost all the States of the country. Today, they serve in diverse fields such as formal and non-formal education—both technical and academic—along with the education and empowerment of children with physical and intellectual disabilities, rehabilitation of street children and orphans, social action initiatives, and rural development programmes.

The Brothers draw strength from the rich traditions of the Catholic Church and the profound educational heritage entrusted to the Society for more than three hundred years. Guided by these values, their educational mission places special emphasis on faith formation, character building, and value-based learning.

Their primary focus has always been the educationally and economically weaker sections of society. By working closely with educators, parents, and other professionals committed to the same cause, the Brothers contribute meaningfully to the cultural, social, and technical progress of the nation.

Believing firmly that a child learns from every experience within the school environment, the Montfort Brothers promote a holistic approach to education. Each institution strives to provide a nurturing atmosphere and a wide range of programmes that support the all-round development of every student.

Today, the Society has expanded its mission to thirty-four countries, continuing the legacy of St. Montfort with dedication, compassion, and a global vision.

St. Louis Mary Grignion de Montfort

A Friend of the Youth & the Poor

St. Louis Marie Grignion De Montfort was born on 31st January 1673 in the small town of Montfort in northern France. From a very young age, he nurtured a profound and childlike devotion to Jesus and Mary. Filled with an intense desire to follow Christ more closely, he dedicated his life as a Missionary Priest, serving God with humility and zeal.

Deeply moved by the hardships of the poor, St. Montfort identified himself with them and embraced their struggles as his own. His compassion and simplicity won their hearts, leading them to lovingly call him “The Good Father Montfort.” As a true priest of Christ, he radiated the love of Jesus through his actions, his words, and his tireless service.

Throughout his life, St. Montfort worked for the upliftment of the poor and established charitable institutions to care for their needs. Recognising that this mission must continue beyond his lifetime, he founded three Religious Congregations—for Priests, Brothers, and Sisters—to carry forward his vision of love, service, and evangelization.

After a life of extraordinary dedication, he returned to his eternal reward on 28th April 1716, at the young age of 43, leaving behind a powerful legacy of faith and charity.

Today, the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel faithfully continue his mission in 34 countries, bringing the message of peace, love, and brotherhood through education, social action, and compassionate service to the poor and the marginalized.
